Dr James Courtney
James has specialist training in Clinical Psychology from La Trobe University. He has worked with clients in both private and public mental health settings and has experience in helping adults, children, adolescents and families with a range of issues. James’ approach in therapy draws on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and family therapy.

As a clinical psychologist, James is able to assist those suffering from depression, anxiety, psychosis, and other significant mental health problems. He has experience assisting primary and secondary school students with problems including anxiety, OCD, bullying, and grief and loss.

James has a special interest in helping people with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); he gained much experience working with military and emergency services personnel in a specialist setting. He holds an ongoing engagement as an associate research fellow at the RMIT University Discipline of Psychology, where he delivers specific lectures, supervises Honours research projects, and continues his own research in the area of shiftwork.

Availabilities and Rebates
James is available for consultation Monday to Thursday, and offers early evening sessions on a Tuesday.

He is registered with Medicare Australia, therefore clients can receive rebates if they are referred under a GP Mental Health Care Plan.
